Reflective Questions Post a Coaching Session

Self-reflection after a session is a powerful way to deepen learning, embed insights, and hold yourself accountable for change. Reflection does not end when the conversation does; often, the most valuable discoveries come as you pause, look back, and ask yourself sharper questions. The prompts below are designed to help you explore your thinking, challenge assumptions, and translate awareness into meaningful action.

1. Reflection on the Session

  • What stood out most for me in today’s session?
  • Which moments felt most powerful or meaningful?
  • Did I experience any resistance—where, and why?
  • How did I show up (Focus, Openness, Energy)?

2. Insights & Learning

  • What new awareness or perspective did I gain- about myself and/or about my client?
  • What surprised me about my thinking or behaviour?
  • How does this connect with my values, goals, or identity?
  • What assumptions did I challenge today?

3. Emotions, Values & Impact

  • How do I feel now compared to the start of the session?
  • What emotions are still present, and what do they tell me?
  • How will these feelings influence my choices going forward?
  • Which values did I honour—or compromise?
  • How did today align with the coach I am becoming?

4. Action & Application

  • What one insight am I committed to applying immediately?
  • What specific actions will I take in the next 7 days?
  • What small experiment can I run to test my learning?
  • Who or what can support me in following through?

5. Next Steps

  • What do I want to bring into the next session?
  • What unfinished threads or questions do I want to explore further?
  • If I had to summarise this session in one sentence, what would it be?

Taking time to pause and self-coach after each session ensures that insights are not lost but transformed into action. By revisiting your thoughts, emotions, and choices, you strengthen accountability and accelerate growth between sessions. Remember, reflection is not about perfection—it is about noticing patterns, testing new approaches, and steadily moving closer to the leader, coach, or individual you aspire to become.
