The ILM Level 7 Coaching Supervision qualification is designed for experienced professional coaches who want to develop the knowledge, skills and reflective practice needed to supervise other coaches effectively.

It is ideal for established coaches, internal coaching leads, coaching consultants and those responsible for developing coaching or coaching supervision within an organisation.

The programme combines advanced supervision theory, practical supervision experience, reflective learning and personalised tutor support. Learners develop the confidence and professional capability needed to supervise coaches working in complex leadership and organisational settings.

You can choose between the ILM Level 7 Certificate and the ILM Level 7 Diploma in Coaching Supervision. For experienced coaches looking for a shorter route into coaching supervision, we also offer an Coaching and Mentoring Supervision,ILM Recognised Programme.

Course Overview

The ILM Level 7 Coaching Supervision programme develops the advanced knowledge and practical skills required to supervise coaches effectively.

You will explore the purpose and principles of coaching supervision, professional and ethical practice, contracting, reflective approaches and the wider organisational context in which supervision takes place.

The programme places a strong emphasis on practical supervision. You will apply your learning through real supervision sessions while receiving support and supervision from experienced BSC coaching supervisors.

Certificate or Diploma?

The Certificate requires 20 hours of coaching supervision practice.

The Diploma requires 60 hours of supervision practice and provides greater depth through extended experience, reflection and professional development.

Learners may apply directly to the Diploma if this is the most appropriate route for their experience and professional goals.

Certificate learners may also choose to progress to the Diploma later, subject to the relevant programme requirements.

How the Course Works

The programme begins with five interactive workshop days that combine coaching supervision theory with practical application.

During the workshops, you will develop your understanding of coaching supervision and explore different models and approaches. You will also practise supervision skills and prepare for your assessed work.

You will complete three main areas of assessment, combining written work, practical supervision and reflective learning.

Your Personal Tutor will support you throughout the qualification. You will also receive supervision of your own supervision practice, helping you reflect on your work and continue developing professionally.

Programme Duration

The programme normally takes approximately 12 to 18 months to complete.

The exact timeframe will depend on your work commitments and the pace of your coaching supervision practice.

Looking for a Shorter Coaching Supervision Programme?

If you want to develop coaching supervision skills but do not wish to undertake a longer Level 7 qualification, BSC also offers and Coaching and Mentoring Supervision, ILM Recognised Programme.

This four-day programme is designed for experienced coaches and mentors who want to develop the skills and confidence to provide individual and group coaching supervision. It includes 10 hours of supervision practice and leads to an ILM Recognised Certificate in Coaching and Mentoring Supervision.

It provides a shorter, practice-led route for experienced practitioners who want to develop as coaching supervisors without completing the full Level 7 Certificate or Diploma.
